THORNDIKE – Eight people, including seven people from College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor were hurt late Sunday morning when two vans collided on Route 220 here.
According to Maine State Police, a van registered to COA attempted to turn onto the Crosby Brook Road near the site of the Common Ground Fair and crossed the path of the second van. The oncoming van hit the COA vehicle broadside on the passenger side.
The injured were taken to Inland Hospital in Waterville and Waldo General Hospital in Belfast. One was taken by Lifeflight helicopter ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.
The most serious injuries were a broken wrist and facial cuts and contusions, police said.
The names of the drivers were expected to be released later Sunday evening.
“Our thoughts and good wishes go out to everyone involved in the accident,” COA spokesman Rob Levin said Sunday evening. “We continue to be concerned for the health and safety of the occupants of the vehicles,” he added.
